September’s book for our book club was Jennette McCurdy’s I’m Glad My Mom Died, a memoir…or perhaps a reflection of her life up until today. It is a very candid account of her life before and after her mom’s death and the self actualization of what that meant for her.

If it wasn’t for the humor sprinkled throughout the book, it would be an even more difficult read/listen to get through – there is a deep sadness and pain that comes with Jennette’s account of her life.

Jennette delivers some heavy blows for her readers to consider and know about, even if that might mean some may criticize her for it. Even the title of the book may make many say “how can you say that about your mother?” After listening to her story, I would say… it’s plenty more complex than what’s at the surface.

Listening to the book was particularly impactful. There are times in the book where you even hear Jennette’s quivering voice in some of the sad realizations, truths, or topics she’s talking about.

I recommend for everyone to read/listen to the book and without judgement and embrace what Jennette has to offer.

This was a 5/5 for me.
