Forest Glen Backpacking

The first backpacking trip of year was to the Forest Glen Preserve for an 11 mile loop. We usually do this one once or twice a year to test new gear out, cook some new things on the trail, or bring friends new to the camping world! This time around, everyone said no to us… 🙁

Planning

One of the first things we do is think about what meal we are going to be cooking. Last year, we made some fillet mignons, asparagus, and mashed potatoes in the middle of the forest! Of course, all this takes some effort…for example, we carried a cooler bag with the steaks, butter, veggies, etc as well as a small cast iron the whole 11 miles! Was it worth it? Absolutely.

This year, we went for tacos. We brought chorizo, al pastor, asada, 3 salsas, cokes, beer, cilantro and onion…the works.

Needless to say, it was delicious! The effort and the fact we were in the woods made this totally worth it!

The Hike

The hike…is the hike. It’s about 7 miles the first day and 3 miles the second day (take a look at the strava below). There is PLENTY of elevation! This time around, it was also raining throughout the hike. One of the biggest reasons why we do this trail is because it’s pretty close to us (at least compared to everything else) and it provides a simple route for us to take.

Camp

The rain was on and off for the whole time, but when we got to camp, it seemed to have gotten a little worse. So we rushed to set up camp and make a makeshift roof so that we can cook our tacos (although there was no fire 🙁 ).

Morning After

After some quick breakfast, we went on our way back to the car (with rain still on and off).

Shoutout to Itacate Foods for some legit mexican meals for the trail!

Here is a quick video about our time there! Enjoy!
