Over the weekend, a few friends and I decided to car camp at Indiana Dunes National Park. The original intention was to backpack their short 5 mile hike into the “Park & Walk Tent Sites”…but after being a bit lazy, we decided we wanted to bring heavier gear and some real food (instead of dehydrated meals). We stayed at sites 58 + 59, right across from each other.

The sites themselves were nice. Clean, pretty surrounded by trees, and functioning fire ring!

These particular sites were also very close to the parking lot (you can kind of see it in this picture in the background).

Additionally, the shower and bathroom facilities were fully functioning – there was even a water drinking station!

Hiking

There are plenty of little trails around there, though it does require walking on the road here for about .5 miles or so. A few of us wanted to hike a bit but not too much (ended up being around 2 miles).

There were PLENTY of annoying mosquitos and a little muddy – but a nice easy trail nonetheless.

Cooking

Everyone brought a little something for everyone. Folks brought ceviche, arachera, potato/pasta salad, veggies, chicken sqewers, chorizo, chips, cheesecake, drinks, and the list goes on.

Ended up using 2 grills (one I brought and the one in the campsite) to get everything done around the same time.
