Bike The Drive

This year, we decided to do Bike The Drive – where Chicago closes a large part of Lakeshore Drive for cyclists to come out and ride! The whole thing is about 30 miles, though you have different checkpoints where you are able to get off if you chose to do so.

It was really well organized, plenty of security and medical personnel. At about the 20 mile mark, there was a rest station with a ton of bananas, apples, and Gatorade Fit drinks to hydrate a bit – which really helped!

Although very smooth in general, there were a couple of factors that made the 30 miles a bit of a challenge:

1. lots of small hills (for a total of a little over 300ft of elevation)
2. A ton of head wind when traveling north on LSD

Besides some strong headwind for a while, the weather was great! Sunny but not hot – in the low 70’s. Overall, it was fun and a great experience! A new way of taking in some awesome Chicago views.
