Dinner @ Rockford, Il – Part 1

My girlfriend and I decided to make a small trip down to Rockford, IL, a couple of hours from where we live, and see what the place has to offer (which is a lot). For dinner 1 of 2, we decided to stop by Woodfire Brick Oven Pizza.

Honestly, it was one of those feelings where you really wish you were hungrier for more…but you aren’t…so then you’re kinda sad that you won’t be able to try everything on the menu. We ended up ordering a caesar salad and “Tuscan fries” as appetizers – which were delicious! The fries are cooked in duck fat and finished with parmigiano, garlic, fresh herbs, and black truffle sea salt.

The real stars of the show came later… we ordered a couple of pizza’s to try out and they did not disappoint. They are fairly big (honestly, 1 is enough for 2 people…we ended up taking 1 pizza worth back to the hotel to eat later). We had a classic Pepperoni pizza and a speciality “Sausage with Rapini and Ricotta” – oof. I am a big fan of brick oven pizzas and these were solid. The cheese combination in the sausage pizza gave it a unique texture that I very much enjoyed.
